During April 23-28, the European Geosciences Union (EGU) 2017 General Assembly (GA) has been held in Vienna, Austria. The Third Pole Environment (TPE) program hosted a session entitled “The Third Pole Environment: hydrometeorological processes and ancient human activity”. This session was co-convened by ITPCAS* Profs. MA Yaoming, ZHANG Fan, YAO Tandong together with Prof. CHEN Fahu of Lanzhou University of China, Prof. Bob Su from University of Twente, Netherlands and Prof. Franco Salerno from Water Research Institute (IRSA) of Italy.
In this TPE session, researchers from China, Nepal, Italy, Austria, USA and Netherlands contributed 12 oral and 26 poster presentations, covering multidisciplinary topics over the Third Pole including climate changes, land surface processes, regional water cycle, climate change adaptation, paleoclimate and human activities, environmental changes and evolution of human civilization.
As one of the brand activities of the TPE Program, the TPE session at EGU GA has been continuously promoting new research and joint projects related to the Third Pole for years. It also enabled a broader visibility of cryosphere researches by the scientists from developing countries.
